Magnet Theater

The Magnet is hosting the Chicago Improv Festival College Improv Tournament on Saturday, November 19th at 12pm, 2pm, 4pm and the finals at 8pm.

With a tournament schedule that looks like Monday Night Football meets Whose Line Is It Anyway, CIF Productions has released the 2011-2012 College Improv Tournament schedule. New for this year’s tournament: There will be one regional per weekend, going from mid-October and until early February. Every regional final will be webcast live, and for free, on CIT’s website.

The winner of each round (plus one wild card ream) as decided by a panel of three judges (comprised of professional improvisers in NYC) will go on to compete in the CIT Big Apple Regional Finals at 8PM.  The winner of that will be crowned the CIT Big Apple Regional Champion and will go on to compete in the CIT Nationals in Chicago (March 10, 2012).

Matt Evans is Gary Vosot - a vain TV news reporter with a live shot and stand-up reel.  Matt explains…

I used to do this for a living before moving to NYC.  Just poking fun at how ridiculous local tv news can be.  George Gross shot and edited the piece!!”

Awesome work guys, keep ‘em comin’.

Featured Class: Tell Me a Story…

Storytelling Level 1 w/ Adam Wade.

Learn how to take personal experiences from your life and create stories that are universal and identifiable for an audience - you’ll be surprised at how engaging your personal stories can be! In this class, you will learn the basic elements of telling a narrative story, how to take a crowd by surprise and make them care, how to be real and truthful on stage, and how to discover and communicate the real meaning behind your experience. Classes will include verbal and written exercises, examples of performances from some of the finest storytellers, and various techniques and approaches to prepare yourself for a performance of your story. What you’ll get out of the class: at least one polished, six-to-eight minute story, which could be the beginning of a one-person show, and the fundamentals needed to develop future stories. The class concludes with a graduation performance where you will perform your personal story in front of an audience.
